1954 – Sister, Sylvia born March 18.
1956 – Moved north when Dad started working for J & T Peters, later A K Sharpe, on Southworth Hall farm, Croft. We lived in one of the farm’s tied cottages, Jaque’s Cottage, Southworth Lane, Croft.
1958 – Started School at Winwick C.o.E. Primary School
1960 – Walked from school when bus was tapped in snow drift. Moved to a council house in Winwick village
1963 – January, 62/63 the coldest winter on record,
1964 – Sept Started secondary education at Culcheth County Secondary
1968 – Sept left school and started electrical apprenticeship training at UKAEA Risley
1969 – 1st year training (except for time at college) spent at Winfrith site while living at Weymouth, Dorset. Started sailing at this time and had first trip abroad on a cross channel race to Cherbourg, France
1970 – 2nd year, instead of an Outward Bound venture course I opted for a 13 day training cruise on the sail training association’s schooner STS Malcolm Miller which started in June from Weymouth and finished in Portsmouth.
1972 – Completed apprenticeship, taken on as an electrician in Risley RD Labs
1975 – September, Norway and Sweden road-trip
1976 – Sept Attempted an electrical engineering degree at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham
1977 – Lack of effort resulted in failed 1st year, taken on as an electrician by Vickers shipbuilding works, Barrow-in-Furness. Working on HMS Invincible fitting out. Joined works motor club and became interested in rallying. Donington Park re-opened and I became a track marshal, also helping at Oulton Park, Silverstone and Mallory Park
1978 – March Became an electrical design draughtsman at Daresbury Labs
1980 -Dec Christmas in Toronto, Canada. 1st Flight, staying with cousin Barb. Includes visit to Niagara Falls
